Opened in 1965 with an enrollment of 2,489, the Rockville Campus is now Montgomery College's largest, with an enrollment of 14,000 full- and part-time students. More than 600 courses are now offered in more than 40 curricula. People of all ages take classes at Rockville, and there is a diverse mix of cultures which contribute to the international flavor of this suburban campus. Thousands of Continuing Education students also attend classes at Rockville, and additional tens of thousands of people come to this campus each year for art exhibitions, athletic events, concerts, conferences, lectures, movies, plays, and other events open to the public.

Montgomery Scholars Honors Program Information Session
Prospective High School Juniors, Seniors, and Parents Invited to Attend: The Montgomery Scholars Honors Program will host an information session for prospective high school juniors, seniors, and parents on Saturday, November 22 at 11 a.m. The session will be held in the Performing Arts Center at the Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md.

At the session, current Scholars will share information about their experiences in the program at Montgomery College and at the University of Cambridge. In addition, the session will highlight the many paths Scholars have embarked upon over the past 10 years, including transfer success at competitive four-year colleges and universities, and graduate studies. The program's emphasis on global studies and social responsibility is also reflected in many of the students' service at home and abroad, including the Peace Corps, Doctors Without Borders and Teach for America.

The Montgomery Scholars program strives to recruit an academically talented and highly diverse community of students, who reflect the rich diversity of backgrounds within the Montgomery County population. The program is currently accepting applications for its fall 2009 class. The application deadline is January 23, 2009.

Montgomery Scholars is a rigorous honors program for a select group of 25 recent high school graduates. Created in 1999, the program's students participate in a learning community that provides a supportive and engaging academic environment. The program features interdisciplinary, team-taught courses and research in the humanities, in addition to extracurricular learning opportunities and trips, including the summer study abroad at the University of Cambridge.

Montgomery College to Host Talk by Journalist Cokie Roberts
Cokie Roberts, an award-winning journalist and author of the recently published book "Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation," will speak at Montgomery College's Theatre Arts Arena on Wednesday, December 3 at 7 p.m. The Theatre Arts Arena is on Montgomery College's Rockville Campus, located at 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

In her discussion of "Ladies of Liberty," Roberts will examine the accomplishments of women who laid the groundwork for a better society. This group includes Abigail Adams, Margaret Bayard Smith, Martha Jefferson, Eliza Hamilton, Sacajawea, Dolly Madison, and others. "Ladies of Liberty" is a companion volume to Roberts' other bestselling book "Founding Mothers."

Roberts is currently a senior news analyst for National Public Radio (NPR) News, where she was the congressional correspondent for more than 10 years. In addition to her work for NPR, Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News, providing analysis for all network news programming.

From 1996-2002, she and Sam Donaldson co-anchored the weekly ABC interview program "This Week." In her more than 40 years in broadcasting, she has won countless awards, including three Emmys. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting.

At the Montgomery College event, Roberts will be introduced by former Congresswoman Connie Morella, who served Maryland's 8th congressional district for 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Morella most recently was the U.S. ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development until late 2007.

Kiwanis All-You-Can-Eat Pancake & Sausage Breakfast
Join the Kiwanis Club of Rockville for an all-you-can-eat pancake & sausage breakfast at the Campus Center Cafeteria at Montgomery College. If pancakes and sausage aren't enough, there will also be pictures with Santa Claus, choral entertainment, contests, drawings, a bake sale, a raffle and a silent auction.

Tickets are $6 in advance (contact John Tyner at 301-468-2146) or $7 at the door. Children under 5 free. Proceeds go to ongoing club projects supporting children in need.
