Daryl Davis band at Rockville Jazz Festival

My latest band-crush is the Daryl Davis band, who closed the Rockville Jazz Festival on Saturday. I don't know which makes me happier to watch: the non-stop energy of Daryl Davis and his band members, or the crowd that always gathers to dance when they play. The band is one big happy people-magnet. I had a chance to see them earlier in the summer also, and was told then by Roald Schrack (whose video from that day is posted at Rockville Central) and Pat Wilson, who know him well, about the brave work he has undertaken to approach and change minds within the Ku Klux Klan, so there is even more to admire about the man than just his music.

The pictures and recordings above were taken with my videocam on Saturday. The sound quality doesn't really do the band justice, but it does bring back some of the good vibes from what was hopefully the first annual Rockville Jazz Festival! I see from the band's website that they'll be back on September 27 for the Uncorked Wine Festival -- I'm getting my dancin shoes ready.
